Amazons

The Amazon warrior women worshipped horses and the moon. They were incomparable horsewomen, fast, fearless and brave. They roamed the plains of Armenia and all round the Black Sea, fighting any who dared oppose them. There were three tribes of Amazon, and Antiope was queen of one of them. Here she is in her way to Theseus, just home from his epic voyage - she climbed on board before he had even set anchor and seduced him.

Lysippe was another Amazon queen and leader.
